Assessment of implicit motives: Develop new implicit motive coding systems

Most research on implicit motives during the past 50 years has focused on the 'Big Three' of motivation: achievement, power, and affiliation. Although these are fundamental motivational needs that humans share with other animals, they do not represent an exhaustive list of motivational needs or systems. Other fundamental needs, such as hunger, sex, or curiosity, have received short shrift in previous implicit-motivation research. The HuMAN Lab is therefore dedicated to the development and validation of PSE-type assessment methods for these other implicit motives. Work on coding systems for the assessment of implicit sexual and hunger motivation is currently under way.
