Assessment of implicit motives: Describe key properties of PSE Researchers at the HuMAN Lab examine and evaluate the picture material and the processes involved in the PSE in detail (Pang & Schultheiss, 2005; Schultheiss & Brunstein, 2001). Findings indicate that each picture stimulus has a distinct profile with regard to which kind and how much motive imagery it elicits in participants' stories, a profile that is very robust across cultures and languages. Schultheiss and Pang (2007) have compiled profiles from a broad variety of PSE stimulus pictures used at the HuMAN Lab to help researchers interested in using the PSE to pick the right pictures for the assessment of a given motive (see also Schultheiss & Brunstein, 2010).
